Becoming Karl Lagerfeld

July 10 2024 – Matt Beddows

When it comes to iconic figures in the fashion industry, Karl Lagerfeld is a name that stands out. Known for his creative genius and impeccable sense of style, Lagerfeld's legacy continues to inspire designers and fashion enthusiasts alike. The TV series "Becoming Karl Lagerfeld" draws on the earlier part of his career -  a young Lagerfeld navigates the cutthroat world of 1970’s Parisian haute couture. And while his costume may not be quite as pronounced as it became in his later years, there are still flashes of the Lagerfeld-to-come that we all knew and loved: strict tailoring, sunglasses, a sleek ponytail, and a taste for bourgeoisie Parisian style.
In re-creating the wardrobe for the show, French costume designer Pascaline Chavanne did an immense amount of research into design and fabrics. In the end, Dormeuil was chosen as the mill of choice to re-create the fashion of the time.
As one of Dormeuil's partners in London and Switzerland, if you would like to become more like Karl Lagerfeld, we would be happy to help.
